The joy of print.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Imogen Lepere this week, and our conversation turned to the joy of being able to hold something printed in your hands rather than scrolling on devices. From magazine subscriptions to luxe coffee table tomes, there is definitely something to be said for print in all its (CMYK!) glory.
As a graphic designer, design for print has always been my thing. My studio is testament to that; I surround myself with design inspiration of the printed variety.
At home, we have a collection of old books, most of which are Victorian. They are beautifully designed, with ornate colours, some with gold embellishments, many with fabulous illustrations, and all with stunning typography.
What makes these books just as special for me are the handwritten dedications that appear in many of them. Awards from a school or church, and even one inscribed with “Many happy returns of the day”, from a doting father to his daughter on her 16th birthday back in 1901.
Here, social history meets design and brings joy in a way that only print can.
